Icelandic Farm

Sunset is near at this farm in northern Iceland. This is the view from the Jónasarlundur lookout, by the side of the Ring Road some 30km west of Akureyri.

This photo was taken in a late afternoon in October of 2013.

Riverside Park

Riverside Park, in New York, is beautiful at any time of year (and usually much quieter than Central Park). But in my opinion autumn makes this park especially gorgeous.

Hills by the beach

Wharekaho is a small village in the north-east coast of New Zealand’s North Island, just north of Whitianga. This shot was taken looking inland from the beach where the Akeake stream ends.

Butterfly

I’m not sure it’s very noticeable, but the background of this photo is a house with a round door. This is at the Hobbiton movie set, the place where the Shire scenes from the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies were filmed.

Black sand

Vík is a small village on the south coast of Iceland, famous for its black sand beach and for being the southernmost village in the country. The sand is black because it is formed from the volcanic rock that makes up most of the island.

This photo was taken in October of 2013, on a very windy afternoon (as one can see from the spray over the waves).

Storm

Sometimes you don’t have to go very far looking for a shot. I took this photo from home, through our kitchen window, while a summer storm approached Sydney from the west.

(Sony A65, ISO 200, f/4, 17mm [24mm eq], 1/60s)

This particular storm happened in October of 2014.

Beetle

The rain brought this small beetle out to feast on the rose petals. I’m not an expert, but this looks very much like a cucumber beetle (Diabrotica balteata) even though this photo was taken much further south than its supposed range as described on Wikipedia.

This photo was taken in southern Brazil (around 28.5°S) in January of 2018.

Fairy Glen

The Isle of Skye, in the Highlands region of Scotland, is full of amazing landscapes that look like they’re out of a fantasy book. Fairy Glen, in the north of the island, is one of the most popular ones. Visiting in autumn or winter improves your chances of not having many people around, but you’ll need to be lucky with the weather.

Balance

Pride Parade in San Francisco brings out lots of colour and beautiful performances.

Winter in Central Park

Winter makes Central Park into a particularly beautiful place. The snow that falls on the streets of New York soon turns into a slushy mud, but the park remains a pristine white for as long as the snow lasts. But it does make it trickier to walk through the less visited areas, away from the main paths: they become icy and slippery.
